Game in hand gone

The Latics failed to win their game in hand at lowly Notts County but it wasn’t for the want of trying. Boss Frankie Bunn praised his side's efforts but, with 19 attempts on goal, believes that they should have brought all three points back to Boundary Park.

He commented, “I'm delighted with the clean sheet. I thought the application, determination and the performance was very good. We couldn't finish good approach work but it was a good performance away from home with a clean sheet, all that was missing was a couple of goals. I think we just need a little bit of luck. I'm not being biased there but it could have been three or four and that's where we are at the minute. We've done great up until the opposition's box again and it might just be a bit of luck that we need now because some of our work was very good. We've just got to start finishing the good work off.”

“I'm delighted with the response from Saturday [at Stevenage], where I thought we were good and created a lot of chances, the luck just doesn't seem to be with us at the minute. You can't fault any of the players, they all put everything in tonight we just needed a goal. We might be trying too hard, if we play like that more often than not I'm sure we'll win more games. We deserved a lot more than a draw. The supporters must have been pleased with the performance, they must have been pleased with the energy, the tempo of how we played and they must believe in us, we attacked, we were on the front foot and we kept on going.”
