No it's not Steven Gerrard but his cousin, Anthony Gerrard, who has signed on emergency terms for Athletic! Dean Holden hopes to strengthen his defence and has brought the 29-year-old in from Huddersfield. Gerrard has been out of the first team at Huddersfield since January and, after returning from injury, has found himself down in the pecking-order. The experienced centre-back will go straight into the back four at Crewe Alexandra today as Athletic look to improve on their recent worrying slump.
Holden commented, “We go to Crewe, put in a performance and everyone is quickly looking upwards. At the moment there doesn’t look like there is a lot of hope for a successful end to the season. So that is the challenge for myself, staff and players - to go out there and put a bit of pride back in the shirt and make sure we stay in games.”
