Wayne Gill (27) has joined first division Grimsby Town for a trial. One of the nine players said to be surplus to requirements earlier in the season, Gill will play for the Mariners’ reserves side at Hartlepool on Wednesday. Signed by former boss Andy Ritchie for £70,000 in 2001, injury has meant that Gill has only made three league appearances although he has been playing regularly in the reserves.
