Gradi unhappy with performance

Crewe's Technical Director Dario Gradi was unhappy with the way his team threw away the chance to meet the big boys in the third round of the FA Cup.

He told the Crewe official website, "We might have got something and nicked a goal but I didn't think we played well enough. Our quality was not good enough but I thought we might have got one late on with the big lads up there. Oldham played well. Their teamwork was excellent and they worked the ball a lot better than we did. We weren't able to work the ball as good as them because our passing and distribution in first half was poor. We tried to do that much better in the second half and Ben Rix and Neil Cox were trying to move the ball a lot more through midfield."

"The effort was there from the players but we have got to play better than that. We were not happy with the performance, although we defended resolutely and they didn't have countless chances either. We had a great chance in the opening 30 seconds, and it goes down as a miss from Ryan. Those things influence games and who knows how the game would have gone if we had scored then and then we had kept them out for a while. The players have come in and said that their goal was offside. I don't know but it looked tight from where we were. We will have a look at it again on the video but it is gone now and there is nothing we can do about."
