Grant on the move

Lee Grant will be making his final appearance for Athletic on Saturday as his loan spell finishes after the Scunthorpe game. Earlier in the season, Grant pledges his troth to Athletic and said that he wanted to stay even if the Latics failed to gain promotion. However, his ambition is such that it is likely that the lure to play in the Championship will become too much of a draw to remain with Oldham. Birmingham City who have just been relegated from the Premiership are leading the chase for his signature as he has already said that he wants to leave Derby County as he needs to further his career.

Athletic only have Chris Day and youngster Terry Smith in reserve and may have to splash out for a new keeper. Ronnie Moore said, “Granty has always said he would think about staying, but there's no way we can compete with the other clubs who want him. First we can't offer him Championship football, and second he would be better off financially if he went somewhere else. I'm sure he would have considered us if we'd won promotion, but we lost our chance by having a terrible April. Not for one second can you blame the lad for wanting to play at a higher level, and there has been an awful of interest. That doesn't surprise me because he has done a brilliant job for us and was one of the biggest reasons we had a chance of the play-offs. Unfortunately, keeping hold of him will be a no-go, but I will shake his hand on Saturday and thank him for everything he has done.”
