The Latics have ended the rumours and speculation surrounding Sean Gregan by announcing that he has signed a two and a half year deal at Boundary Park. The signing is a coup and and major boost for Athletics promotion chances. The 32 year old had recently been released from the final six months of his Leeds contract and his influence has been immense during his recent loan spell from Elland Road. Gregan has previously played for Darlington, Preston, West Brom, Leeds and West Brom and has made over 580 career appearances. It was a fight to retain his services as at least two Championship teams were in the running for his services.

A delighted John Sheridan commented to the oficial site, "I made it clear to Sean that I wanted him to stay. The way he'd been playing I'm sure a number of clubs were after him so I'm delighted that he has decided to come here. Sean did very well while he was on loan here and the lads look up to him on the pitch. He's a great player to have in our team, a great lad in the dressing room and a real help to other players."

Gregan explained, "I'm definitely pleased to be here. It's been very busy and stressful over the last few days. I'm glad it's all sorted and I can get back to playing football again. We're in the automatic promotion positions at the moment and if we keep on as we are, we've as good a chance as anyone. The fact that Oldham are flying high and challenging for promotion was a big factor in me coming back. I enjoyed my loan here and it couldn't really have gone much better results-wise. Now I'm looking to get my career back on track and get playing football again. When you come to a new club the fans can make or break you and it's lovely how they've (Oldham's fans) taken to me. Long may it continue."
