Gunnings exit explained

Gavin Gunning’s early exit from the club has been explained by manager Darren Kelly. Kelly was initially impressed by Gunning and saw him as one of the team’s a leaders but it has not worked out for the 24-year-old ex-Dundee United and Birmingham City player. He was out for most of last season after knee surgery which was the reason why he was only initially offered a one-month deal at the club. The form of rival centre-backs Jonathan Burn and James Wilson, who was recently handed the captain’s armband, was also a contributing factor.

Kelly explained, “Gavin came in and was great, but he wanted to play and I couldn’t guarantee that. Jonathan Burn has done extremely well and, in the last few months, James Wilson has really stepped up to the plate. Gav had his issues with injuries and on the back of that, when was he going to get 100 per cent fit? That was the big question.”
