Guy Branston is off

Guy Branston is off! His contract expires today and he will not be staying at Boundary Park as the two sides are miles apart in contract negotiations. His first offer was point blank refused and he was quoted as saying that it was “the sort of money you would pay a young kid.” Branston recently turned down an offer from an undisclosed League Two side and has also been linked with Swansea and Carlisle. He made a total of 50 appearances for the Latics.

Branston said of the latest offer, “I wanted to stay, but it isn't going to happen. I'll be packing my bags because there has been no change to the deal which I was offered and turned down. I've spoken to John Sheridan and he said I was welcome to go back on Monday and start pre-season training while I sort myself out with a new club. But that wouldn't have felt right under the circumstances, so I'll train with Rotherham and weigh up my options."

“There's interest from one or two places, but all I know at the moment is I won't be playing for Oldham next season. For personal and professional reasons that's a disappointment, but I'd like to wish Oldham all the best and say thank you to the fans.”
