Haining and Stam to miss Ibiza trip

Defenders Will Haining (pictured) and Guy Branston will not be joining the rest of the team for the pre-season tour in Ibiza where the Latics are taking part in the SanAn Cup. Instead they will both be at home undergoing treatment. Haining has a recurrence of a hamstring problem and Branston has suffered a bad calf strain. In their place, youngsters Chris Lever and Chris Hall have been called into the squad. Andy Todd is a midfielder from Nationwide Conference North club Hucknall Town who will also be making the trip.

Wycombe Wanderers and local side UE San Jose will be the competition and Ronnie Moore made it perfectly clear that it will be no jaunt in the sun. he said, “We’ll be making the most of it, and will be having three training sessions each day. There will be fitness work at 9am, swimming in the afternoon and ball work in the evening. If they aren’t fit now, they soon will be. This is anything but a holiday, and I will only give them a night out if they end the week with a trophy. The lads have been training for a few days and I have been pleased with their effort, but they need to step it up in Ibiza.”

The full squad for the SanAn Cup is: Pogliacomi, Murphy, Forbes, Griffin, Lever, Owen, Scott, Stam, Tierney, Bonner, Edwards, Hughes, Warne, Wellens, Butcher, Todd, Eyres, Facey, Killen, Liddle, Porter, Hall.
