Hall and Porter in fight for goal

The winning goal against Tranmere that took Athletic to the top of the league is being claimed by both Chris Hall (pictured) and Chris Porter. There is also the suggestion that it may have been an own goal by the Rovers keeper Gavin Ward. Hall was quick to claim the goal when he claimed after the game that he got a touch to the Porter centre after Ward had fumbled the ball.

However, Chris Porter refuted the claim when he told the official site, "I definitely scored the goal. Chris (Hall) didn't touch it. I've seen the video and he's nowhere near the ball. I had a goal cancelled out against Bristol City where I was definitely onside so I'm happy to get one that was a bit dubious. I'm over the moon with twenty goals, and hopefully I'll get a few more before the end of the season. I'm hoping to get goal number twenty-one on Tuesday night and I'll be doing my best to make it happen. Blackpool are going to be tough opponents though. They've just suffered a bad defeat after being on a good run so they will definitely be looking to bounce back."

The Football League will eventually decide who the goal will be attribute to. If Porter is awarded the goal he will be the first player to score twenty goals since Andy Ritchie in the famous 'Pinch Me Season' of 1989-90. The fans appear to be in Porters favour with a poll currently giving him a 70% to 10% lead over Hall.
