Has Eyres played his last game?

It is becoming more obvious that David Eyres may have played his last game for Athletic. Eyres was offered a new contract but he was unhappy that he would have to take a cut in wages. Eyres has made 218 appearances, scoring 43 times, played 53 games and scored seven goals last season. Not a bad record for the oldest outfield player in league football.

Manager Ronnie Moore said, “I don’t expect to see David Eyres when the players report back for pre-season training. It would be nice to keep him and probably get him involved in coaching, but that doesn’t look like happening.” However, David is on holiday in America at the moment and the outcome is still not resolved. It is quite possible that a deal could still be struck so watch this space!
