Paul Heffernan has rejected the Latics for a second time. The striker has been on loan at Boundary Park from Doncaster and he made his mark with a goal in the recent home win over Exeter City. Boss Dave Penney was hoping to entice the 28-year-old to stay with Oldham but he has snubbed the club and gone on loan with League One rivals Bristol Rovers.
He has joined Bristol on a one month deal, a move which has left the clubs officials stunned as they had been told by Doncaster to try again at extending the loan which they thought would be a done deal. Back in 2005 the Latics had a deal signed and sealed with Heffernan but at that time he snubbed them to join Doncaster. Heffernan told the official Bristol website, “I think I have plenty to offer Bristol Rovers. I have been sitting on the bench up at Doncaster for most of the season, so I want to get out and prove that I can still score goals at whatever level because you are soon forgotten about in this game.” He made four appearances for the Latics.
