Dean Holden will stay in charge of first team affairs as acting manager until the end of the season - a decision which has not been well received by the majority of the fans. Tony Philliskirk and Adam Lockwood will both assist Holden.
Chief Executive, Neil Joy, announced, "It has been a learning curve for Dean over the past few weeks and by involving Tony in the mix it provides the added support that Dean needs to have the best chance of succeeding in the role. Everyone at the club has been impressed with Dean’s attitude and approach especially given the crippling injury list he has faced which have made planning and preparation for games almost impossible. The search for Oldham Athletic's next permanent manager will continue away from the spotlight and destabilising speculation that we have seen since Lee Johnson left the club. Given the importance of the role, especially at this point in the club’s history, it is essential that no stone is left unturned in ensuring that the Board of Directors appoint the person whom we believe will give us the best chance of achieving our goal of bringing Championship football to the town. We have a strong nucleus of quality players already signed to the club for next season so we have every reason to be optimistic for the future."
Speaking before the FC Franchise game on Tuesday night Holden commented, "I'm delighted to accept the role of First Team Manager of this fantastic football club until the end of the season. I'm also pleased Tony will be alongside me to add his experience and knowledge of the game as we progress forward. I now ask all supporters to get behind the club and players for the remaining 11 games of the season, including tonight's game against MK Dons. I firmly believe we have the capabilities of reaching the play-off places this season and with your support, which has been excellent all season, we feel we can reach our targets."
Philliskirk added, "When I was asked by Dean, I was more than delighted to help out. Everyone knows the affiliation and love I have for the club and I'll do anything to assist. I will still be hands on with the academy but I'll mainly be around to offer support and guidance to Dean and Adam for what is an exciting opportunity for them. Hopefully I can offer my knowledge in an effective way to help the team progress forward."
