Holden praises Lockwood

Acting manager Dean Holden praised his number two, Adam Lockwood, for his contribution in the 1-0 victory at Port Vale on Tuesday night. The only goal of the game came from a powerful free kick from Mike Jones.

Holden said, “It was absolutely everything you could ask for. We didn't expect him to get to 90 minutes. We thought he would get to 60 and come off. We kept shouting, 'Are you ok?’ Then a little wink would come back that he was good to go. It shows what he is all about. He has had a career-threatening injury and he is prepared to throw himself on the line. It wasn’t just Locky, though, it was everyone. A lot has gone into the last couple of days behind the scenes and there has been a big push to get a performance. It came out in the arena for everyone to see.”

“They all bought into the team ethic, which was important, but producing a performance like that gives you a better position of getting the points. The willingness to run and cover for each other was great to see. It might have been a different story if he had been up against a flying machine of Jonathan Forte’s type but we fancied him to go out there in the first half and set the standard. He did that for the most part and we were very solid.”
