Athletic will entertain Chesterfield at Boundary Park in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. The rules have changed which means the ties will go straight to penalties if the game is still stalemate at the end of normal time. Clubs must also include at least six of the 11 players who have made most first team appearances over the course of the season.

Prize money has been increased and the winner will pick up a cheque for £90,000 if they are victorious in the final which will be held at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium if Wembley is not completed. The second round game will be played during the week commencing October 30th.
