The Home Office has announced that the hooligan element at Oldham games fell sharply last season and Boundary Park supporters were the tenth best behaved in the Second Division. Only 11 Latics supporters were taken into custody compared to 19 in the previous season. Six ‘supporters’ were given banning orders, which prevent them attending any match or from travelling overseas for football games.

By comparison Stoke City had 143 arrests followed by Cardiff City who had 100 arrested. When it came to banning orders Cardiff City had 125 and Stoke City
107. John Denham, the Policing Minister said, “We are not complacent. Some clubs attract relatively large numbers of hooligans for certain matches. The measures we are taking to tackle football-related violence support the right of the true football fans to enjoy matches free from violence and disorder in and around the ground.”
