Hughes delighted with start

Lee Hughes confessed that he was delighted with the start to the season after the 4-3 fightback over Millwall. He told Latics World, "This was a great way to start the season and just to get three points after being 3-1 down is fantastic. But if you'd have told me two days ago I'd be playing thirty minutes I'd have said there was no chance. I've had tonsilitis in the summer and then broke my little toe 12 days ago so I'm glad to be involved. The gaffer just told us to go on and enjoy it, try to change the game and show some energy. I thought we all did that. We showed a lot of character to come back, but the manager has a big squad now and can make these kind of changes when he feels he needs to."

"I think we're going to see substitutions and changes happening in more and more games. I made a run onto the ball for the second goal through and their guy clipped the back of my leg and took me down. It was a definite penalty. Then for Lewis' goal I made another run and fortunately the lads were spotting them and reaching me with their passes. If it wasn't for them the chance wouldn't have been there, so it was good team play all round."
