Lee Hughes is likely to be out of action for some weeks as he needs to undergo surgery after sustaining a double hernia. Hughes was aware of the problem at training on Friday and was forced to miss the 3-2 win over Crewe Alexandra.

The operation will mean that the player will be sidelined for three to four weeks and the earliest he could return to action would be the trip to Huddersfield Town on October 20th. or the home game with Northampton Town the following week. Matt Jenkinson is the new Latics physio and he will be overseeing the recovery when he joins the Boundary Park staff in just over a weeks time.

John Sheridan commented, "We thought it best that Lee gets this sorted out as soon as possible. It's a shame, though, because he's seemed sharper and did very well at Walsall last week. Obviously it's a setback, but hopefully he'll recover quickly and get back on the pitch as soon as possible."
