Midfielder Mark Hughes is set to become a permanent fixture at Boundary Park and the deal should be settled before the week is out. Hughes is 21 and has been on loan from Tottenham Hotspurs. He was an instant hit and played a vital role in the clubs success this season and it is thought that a one year contract is about to be signed. Spurs opted to release him and his current contract expires next month.

John Breckin, Ronnie Moore’s assistant, told the Oldham Chronicle, “We are very close to signing Mark, so hopefully it will be sorted out quickly. He did well for us last season and Ronnie and myself both think there’s a lot more to come. We want competition for midfield places to be very hot. That’s something which is always in our thoughts when we look at who to bring in. There are lots of irons in the fire, and there could be two or three others players coming in for that position.”
