The official website has announced that Mark Hughes has agreed to sign a contract at Boundary Park until the end of the season. Hughes came on loan for a month from Tottenham Hotspurs in November. That loan was renewed monthly and Hughes was offered permanent terms some three weeks ago which he rejected because he couldn’t agree on personal terms.

21 year old Hughes made a total of 18 appearances during his loan spell but the news that his former club would not be offering him a new deal at the end of the current season was a big factor in him accepting the contract. He will start tonights game against Wrexham.

The deal is a big boost for Brian Talbot as Hughes has shown what he is capable of and it also means that the Latics manager will have the flexibility to bring in another loan player should the need arise.
