Hughes to boost striking options

Lee Hughes (pictured) is due to be released on Monday and manager John Sheridan has been discussing his striking options on Latics World. After the two opening games of the season he has seen his strike force bang six goals, two against Swansea and four against Mansfield, and is very happy with the options at his disposal. Hughes will just add more ammunition to his arsenal.

Shez said, "Obviously it's good we've scored six goals so far, and we've still got Lee to come in. I knew we'd score goals this season, but the important thing is we work on keeping them out at the other end. If we do that, I'm confident we'll be okay this season. I'm sure Lee will be pushing for a place, but he's not here yet and I'm pleased with my options up front. Craig has done well, while Michael Ricketts could perhaps do better but saying that he's shown his quality in some areas and scored goals. I'm sure there's plenty more to come."

"Then there's the young kids. Deane Smalley has come on and done well, while little Matty Wolfenden wants to get out there too. The main thing is we've got plenty of pace up there, and that will always be a threat and cause problems for the opposition."
