Injured striker Lee Hughes returned to action too early against Carlisle as he broke down within the first five minutes and had to be substituted. Latics boss John Sheridan has insisted that he will not be rushed back again and that he will have to be 100% recovered from his groin strain before he will even be considered for first team action.

Sheridan said, "He has been struggling on and off with this injury and he needs to get it sorted out. I still think he lacks match sharpness and needs to get to a higher level, but he misses training and he's in and out. I know he has been scoring goals, but for me there is still a lot more room for improvement. Instead of messing about and saying he feels all right, I want it to be sorted, even if that means having an operation."
