Jermaine Johnson’s (pictured) 9 minute return to action at Port Vale has cast doubts about the seriousness of his recovery. The reason for his quick withdrawal was that he had aggravated the same injury which he sustained way back against Accrington Stanley.

Latics Physio Lee Nobes played down the seriousness by saying, “It's not too serious. He himself is saying it's nowhere near like he did the last one. It's a bit sore but we're going to get a precautionary scan just to check him out, and we're taking him to see a specialist just to get a second opinion on it. But it's not particularly worrying me too much. It happened when he went to shoot and caught his studs in the ground. I've got a feeling, but I'll be more certain when I've had the scan, that it might be in a different place to the first one because it was lower down on the ligament on the first one.”

Lee went on about the other injuries, “Kevin Betsy said he's just twisted his ankle but it's more of a jarring type injury. There's no swelling or anything else. He trained this morning but he just said that he was a bit sore twisting and turning. So I'm going to take him out of training for a couple of days for some treatment and some rehab and hopefully he'll train again later on in the week.”

“Lee Croft went over on his ankle in the first half and I was contemplating bringing him off early because he was limping about a bit. At half time he said he was alright so we strapped his ankle up. We thought in the second half it was advisable to get him off. But there wasn't a lot of swelling there and he's trained this morning OK so he should be alright to train this week.”

“Mark Hughes complained of a tight chest and it was a bit of a strange one. He said he's had it once before at Tottenham. He was just struggling breathing. I was a bit worried because at first he said he'd had a kick in the chest and was struggling but when I spoke to him after he said he hadn't. It just came on. He said he felt like he was hyper-ventilating so I took him straight off. Their doc had a look at him straight away. He said he was fine and there was no problem so I'm going up to see our doc today to check him out.”

“Les Pogliacomi picked up a slight groin strain but it's settling down nicely and he should be training Thursday or Friday.”
