The Latics made it five games undefeated at Peterborough United on Tuesday night. It was also their first back-to-back wins of the campaign. Cameron Dummigan scored his first ever professional league goal to put the Latics ahead after just two minutes but just before the half time break Couilbaly equalised for the Posh. The winner came from the penalty spot after Matt Palmer was brought down and Liam Kelly stepped up to score the winning goal.
An obviously delighted John Sheridan said, “We’ve just got to keep winning. If we keep doing that, we’ll find a way out of the position we are in at the moment. It’s a good feeling and we are winning games at the moment so long may it continue. I think we deserved the game overall. It’s a tough place to come and they have some good player and play good football but I was disappointed to go in 1-1 at half time. They had a couple of shots but we started the game so well. It was a great goal from Cammy and I was quite pleased with the way we were playing. I knew they would have possession of the ball because that’s the way they play. But, as I say, I was disappointed to go in level at the break.”
“Joel (Coleman) is a young lad and I have belief in him and sometimes when you make mistakes, it makes you stronger. I’ve told him the most important thing he does now is not to beat himself up about it and make sure I don’t see him beat himself up about it. He will learn and it will make him stronger. That is part and parcel of football and it’s quite harsh sometimes. As a team, though, we came out second half and I thought we dominated. They had possession but our fitness levels again were really strong. I thought once we went to 4-3-3 we were really bright.”
“I wanted to win the game so I thought I’d just put the pace of Forte on. I rested him today because he’s played a lot of games since coming back from injury so it was just a rest. It’s not just about the 11, it’s about the 13 players. Jake Cassidy came on and put a shift in for the team, and he hasn’t been featuring so it’s about us as a group, not individuals. I’m chuffed to bits for the supporters tonight to come along way down here. They have been right behind the teams since I’ve come back and they are having a good time at the moment because we are winning football matches so I’m delighted for them. I knew if we got a result tonight we will take a lot to Scunthorpe. It will be a good game against a good team but we go there to win the game.”
