Keeper signs

Scottish under-21 international and former Gretna goalkeeper Greg Fleming has signed for the Latics on a three year deal. Fleming made 30 Scottish Premier appearances in a struggling Gretna team who are now in administration and could go out of business soon as all Gretna's remaining 40 employees were made redundant earlier this week.

Fleming was being chased by other clubs but he took advice from former Latics players Paul Murray and Danny Hall.

Fleming told Latics World, "Paul and Danny were both team-mates at Gretna and they highly recommended Oldham when I told them they were interested. That helped sway me. Obviously you take into account what your team-mates say and Muzza is an experienced player who's been around. Danny came through the youth ranks here, of course, and it was definitely worth listening to them. Playing in the SPL helped me a lot. I didn't expect to play at the start of the season, but I got my chance and ended up playing 30 games which was a really good experience."

"Obviously it was difficult at Gretna because I saw lots of friends lose their jobs, people who have kids and a mortgage to pay. This move is a good chance to come to England. Oldham are a big club who have been in the Premier League. Mark (Crossley) is an experienced player who has played a lot of games at a high level and I'm looking forward to working with him. But I want to start the season as number one or if not I will be challenging as hard as I can."
