Latics boss Dave Penney (pictured) was relieved that the Latics pulled a result out with the 2-0 victory over Exeter City. He told the press, "Three points is the important thing, if you don't score goals you don't get three points and it's important we pick points up against the teams in and around us for the next 4 or 5 games. Recently we've played the top sides in this league and we've said how important it is to get points from the teams in and around us and I'm glad we've picked those up today."

"It's a great finish from Deane. He needed that and we're delighted to see both forwards scoring goals. Goals give you confidence and you can see Deane physically lifted by his goal. Danny Whitaker has done well too, he's glanced the bar twice and had five or six shots and they're almost as important as it gets the crowd going and works the 'keeper. I'm delighted for Darryl Flahavan. He's done nothing wrong since coming here and not managed to keep a clean sheet."
