Athletic have been awarded a prestigious Silver accreditation by The Football League Trust in recognition of the work they have carried out within the community. A monetary award of £48,000 has been given to re-invest into community activities. To achieve the Silver status, the Latics had to fulfil a range of criteria which included an approved level of governance, a minimum three-year business plan, a strong player appearance policy, charitable status and more.

A Boundary Park spokesman told Latics World, "We are delighted to have been recognised in this way by the Football League. A strong community focus is at the centre of our strategy as a club and such an accolade from the Football League is a real boost. We will now be focusing our efforts on achieving the Gold standard accreditation."
