Latics back with a vengeance

The Latics bounced back from the humiliation of last week's debacle at Hereford to record as convincing victory over local rivals Stockport County. They got off to a perfect start with a goal in the third minute through Danny Whitaker. Lee Hughes scored a fine goal in the 18th. minute but County pulled one back five minutes before half-time to give themselves a lifeline. Chris Taylor (pictured) put paid to any thoughts that Stockport had of getting back in the game after he finished off the game in the 55th. minute with a well struck shot, after an incisive pass from Windass had cut through the visitors defence.

Manager John Sheridan couldn't hide his delight and he told Latics World, "It was a great response from the players after last week, so full credit to them. We were excellent from start to finish. We dominated the game and should have won by a bigger margin. That was probably the best half we've played so far this season. We got into them and created plenty of chances. It was disappointing to concede the goal and put them back in it just before half time, but it was a very solid performance all round. There were a lot of opportunities created and we could have scored more, but I can't grumble too much. Stockport have a very good away record and we bossed the game and fully deserved the three points. We opened them up with lots of excellent play throughout and I'm delighted to get the win we needed."
