The 21-year-old left-back, who plays for Randolph Macon College in Virginia, is on trial at Boundary Park and he is the nephew of director Mike Newton.

Mallon said: "The training has been at a completely different level to anything I have previously experienced in terms of organisation and intensity.

"It has been a great experience and I am sure I have become a better player because of it."
