Latics bounce back

The Latics bounced back from a recent bad run when they put in a good performance in their 1-0 win at Northampton Town. The only goal of the game was scored Andy Liddell (pictured) when he successfully converted a penalty kick with a quarter-hour of the game remaining. It was Northampton's first home defeat of the season. The only disappointing part of the game was the late sending off of Lee Hughes which means he will face an automatic ban.

John Sheridan told Latics World, "I thought we thoroughly deserved this result today. Northampton is a hard place to come, but we've got the three points and the manner in which we did so was very pleasing. We were solid, had good shape and were controlling the game up until we scored, after which we took our foot off the pedal a little. But it was a great display in a very hard game, and the most important thing at the end of the day is that we've got three points."

"We were compact and when we had to defend we did that well, but we created some good opportunities as well. Kevin Maher has kept his head down in training and got on with things. When his chance comes along he has taken it. Meanwhile Darren Byfield came in yesterday and he worked his socks off for the team today. 1-0 is the best result. Yes, one or two things have gone on recently but we all love the club and at the end of the day everyone wants to do well for Oldham. Hopefully this result will put smiles on faces."
