The Latics came away from Brisbane Road with a surprising 2-1 win. A recall for Pawel Abbott resulted in the striker getting both goals, the winner coming from the penalty spot after Dean Holdsworth had been brought down. His first goal came in the 11th. minute when he fired in the rebound past the despairing Leyton Orient keeper from his earler shot.

Abbott (pictured) told Latics Player, "I hit it with my right and then it dropped on my left and I just hit it as hard as I could. When you score two you obviously get the media attention, however today was a team display. The lads defended very well, especially with 10-20 minutes left as they pushed on."

Speaking of the Orient equaliser, Dave Penney said, "There was a miscommunication there and that's annoying. But we've spoken of it and we've put it right. There was not a lot wrong with the first two games, but goals change games. Everybody worked hard and we deserved this for the two games we've not won. It's great when you have the likes of Darren Byfield and Danny Whitaker to come on and change it. I think we kept the ball well and they couldn't get close to us for much of the game, but that was exceptional, for sure."
