Latics confirm Windass interest

The Latics have confirmed their interest in signing Hull City striker Dean Windass. Manager John Sheridan has been looking to bring in some reinforcements as he has recently sent out four players on loan deals. He has declared that he would like to bring in a striker and a defender but it looks the plan to replace him with the 39 year old Windass could be falling through.

Windass has played little football this term for Hull City but was inspirational in helping them get promotion to the Premiership for the first time ever. Hull are reluctant to release anybody from their squad due to the constraints of the transfer window but Athletic, Leeds, Bradford and Doncaster have all been linked with Windass, who has scored well over 200 goals in his career.

John Sheridan said, "A lot of people are after Dean, but we've made an enquiry and we'll see what comes of it. I've asked about other players as well and I'm definitely trying to bring a couple in this week — the players I'm looking at are in higher divisions."
