Latics curse hits yet another striker

Latics fans have seen many recent seasons without a prolific goalscorer. It has always been one of those things where for some reason, when a striker arrives with potential, it disappears quicker than a Georgie Best pint.

The Latics have seen some bizarre injuries and twists of fate and it almost seems like the club is cursed where strikers are concerned. Tipton had a lay-off when, as mentioned in the sites Sheff Weds preview, he cracked his manhood on an iron gate. Dudley was astonishingly found to have asthma. Then the Latics had Reeves who lost a retina. Add to that, Allan (smash your face in) Smart who was sacked after taking on the Oldham police. Clyde Wijnhard had a crippled knee and recently, Chris Killen has seen his Latics career dogged with another injury, one which nearly saw him out for 6 months. But now, even new boy Curier is facing the curse - and this type, it has conspired to not be through injury.

Curier has impressed Dowie and Latics fans with his displays and with 2 goals in 3 games added to his name, the former Notts Forest striker looks very useful. However, it was sad to hear that the strikers mother and brother were badly hurt in a car accident this week, forcing Curier to travel to Italy. The club rightly stated "we understand that his main thoughts are towards his family at this current time."

Thankfully, his family are now considered as stable and Curier plans to fly back to England today, however Dowie must now consider the fitness of his new striker. Having missed training for at least 2 days this week and flying less than 48 hours before the visit of Blackpool, Dowie must now face a tough choice for Saturday's game. Being Dowie though, we trust that he will make the right one.
