Latics earn draw at Yeovil

New manager Terry Skiverton had to settle for a point from his first game in charge of Yeovil Town. All four goals in the 2-2 draw came in the first half. Josh Wagenaar made a superb save to block Dean Smalley as early as the third minute and really the Latics should have been 1-0 up. However, Smalley made up by scoring in the 11th. minute after Kevin Maher intelligently put him through.

Four minutes later, the Glovers were level after Tomlin headed in. Tomlin put Yeovil haead in the 32nd. minute after a terrible mix-up between Reuben Hazell and goalkeeper Greg Fleming. Six minutes later it was all square again afer ex-Latic Terrell Forbes looped a back header over his own keeper for a bizarre own goal. Smalley should have won it for Oldham in the 82nd. minute when he crashed his shot from eight yards against the underside of the crossbar.

Manager John Sheridan was not satisfied with what he considered was two points lost rather than one point gained. He told Latics World, "We didn't get going and today was probably the worst we've played all season. Whether the pitch was bad or not, we cannot blame that as we just didn't get going today, although we could have won it in the end. We couldn't control the ball and it was a shocking game from both sides. Considering the manner of the performance I have to be pleased with a point. But we were very sloppy and it's frustrating because, with no disrespect to Yeovil, the game was there to be won."

"There were no positives today apart from the fact we took a point. I don't want to be too negative so I suppose a point is something. Deane tried to take the leather off the ball - he must learn to stroke the ball into the net. We could have taken three valuable points there but it wasn't to be."
