Latics edge closer to safety

The Latics appear to be edging closer to a rescue package. Administrators PKF are currently talking to a backer who has the where-with-all to provide immediate as well as long term funding. With a possible eight interested parties it is becoming more encouraging that they could beat the immediate threat of liquidation.

Next Tuesday is the deadline and Athletic must have £1.2million on the table it will be shut down permanently. Potential backers are looking at ways of generating enough money to make the club a viable concern. A buy-back of the stadium is still possible but £200,000 must be provided to cover wages and costs for October. With two home games this week, including a derby match with Stockport, signs are encouraging but fans need to turn out in force to show potential backers that there is a future for the homely club.
