Latics fail to finish off the job yet again

Athletic's inability to finish off teams cost them dearly again when they entertained Doncaster Rovers. The home side were superior in everything except being able to put the ball in the net, where they once again fluffed enough chances to have won the game 6-1. Lee Hughes put the Latics in front when he helped Mark Allott's effort over the line in the 44th. minute but James Hayter netted a controversial penalty in the last minute of play to deny Athletic the three points they so richly deserved.

Sheridan told Latics World, "Doncaster are so lucky to get a point it's untrue. We should have been four-nil up and that's annoyed me even more. The amount of chances we had was unbelievable. We should have buried them and then it's over and done with. We had very, very good opportunities but we're not putting them away. We do finishing every day in training."

"Scoring goals makes things a lot easier, and if we had done then we wouldn't be talking about the penalty. I thought our performance was excellent, especially in the second half. We got right at them and created numerous chances. They hit the bar from distance and Mark Crossley made one or two good saves, but our opportunities should have been goals and we should have been talking about a win after a very good performance. Both sides played football, and there were a few tackles flying in. I was very pleased with the way we're playing. We were better than a top-seven team today and we should have won the game, no danger."
