Latics fight back in style

The Latics fought back from a 2-0 deficit at Colchester to earn a very useful point on the road. Mark Yeates' put the U's 2-0 ahead but Chris Taylor hit back within a minute fo Yeates' second goal to give the visitors a fighting chance. With two minutes remaining, substitute Deane Smalley hammered home the equaliser after Lee Hughes had put the ball back into the danger area.

Obviously, manager John Sheridan was pleased to keep his unbeaten run intact and he told Latics World, "I'm pleased we got something out of the game because we certainly deserved to. We contained one of the strongest teams in the league in the first half and would have deserved to have gone in a goal up had Andy Liddell's shot gone in. But instead we went in 1-0 down and obviously that was very frustrating."

"I said to the lads that they should believe they could get back into the game because there's no way we should have been behind. We got straight back into the game through Chris (pictured) - the lads really showed character and in the end we could have gone on to nick it."
