Latics go one better

The Latics, still pumped after their 1-3 triumph at Elland Road last week, went one better in the FA Cup at Goodison Park when they went out and shocked Everton with a 0-1 away win. Gary McDonald scored the crucial goal in the 45th. minute with a miraculous strike which proved to be enough to see off their Premiership counterparts. With 5,500 travelling supporters raving over the result, they outsung the subdued home supporters are really were 'different class'. Once again the travelling army had cause for elation as they racked up their seventh successive away victory. The message for manager John Sheridan (pictured) must clearly be "let's play at home in tangerine" as the tangerinre terrors defied all the odds to convincingly beat the team who currently lie in sixth position in the Premiership.

Manager Sheridan told Latics World, "I believed we could come here and get something, and if you looked at the players during the game I think they believed we could do it too. To come and get a result against a Premier League team like we have is very pleasing, and I'm extremely proud of the players. More than anything, we showed togetherness and the players can be very proud of themselves. Every single one of my team was man of the match. The front two worked their socks off as did the midfield, and defensively speaking some of the blocks, stopping the ball and seeing things early was brilliant. Mark Crossley was very solid in goal too."

"I said Everton would come out and try and get the first goal, and if they had done that would have made it very difficult for us. Mark made a good save and one or two balls went across goal, but as the game went on we got some belief and made one or two chances ourselves, then Gary Mac pops up with a great goal. We defended well and worked hard to get the ball back, and we showed a lot of togetherness from one to eleven, and the subs as well. This is a fantastic result for this club. It'd be nice to get a glamour tie, someone like Manchester United away. We've proved today that it's a funny old game, and we want to go as far as we can."
