Latics hope to keep Rachubka

Athletic are still making moves to keep hold of highly-rated goalkeeper Paul Rachubka. They have asked Manchester United about the 20-year-old’s availability and are still waiting for a reply. Rachubka has been a big hit during his three-month loan spell, which ended after the match at Peterborough.

The England Youth goalkeeper would cost a substantial fee – possibly £500,000 or more – but Athletic hope United are willing to sell. Chief executive Alan Hardy admitted, “We are interested in signing Paul permanently and have enquired about whether it’s possible. Discussions have taken place and it’s now a matter of whether United will give their blessing.”
