Latics miss out on Henry

Stoke City midfielder Karl Henry was just minutes away from signing for the Latics but Stoke pulled out of the deal leaving manager Ronnie Moore no more time to make any alternative signings. Another target was Wolves striker Leon Clarke but he decided to sign for Plymouth.

Moore said, “I thought he was definitely signing, but Stoke had a change of heart which left us with no time to bring somebody in. It's unfortunate, but I'll keep an eye on Henry because he's a ball-winning midfielder who could probably do the job. With the deadline gone, we can get on with winning games and making sure we finish the season with a play-off spot. We can kiss goodnight to promotion if we don't maintain our form, so every game is absolutely vital.”
