Latics play to drab draw

Athletic played to a drab 1-1 draw at home to Millwall. In typical wintry Oldham conditions they went behind in the 76th. minute through Bas Savage but were level minutes later when Leon Constantine headed the Latics level. The Latics pushed and had chances to take all three points with Gary McDonald and Deane Smalley squandering opportunities late on.

Manager John Sheridan was scathing as his team didn't perform for the whole of the game. He told Latics World, "Millwall were the better side in the first half and kept the ball a lot better than us, and I can't answer you why we play like that at times. But full credit to the lads in the second half because the effort was there and that was pleasing. I'm disappointed with a draw because we need to be winning games like this, but you can't play for only 45 minutes of a game and expect to win."

"Their goal came against the run of play which can be an awkward situation, but we reacted well and got stronger as the game went on after that. It was a great ball in from Chris Taylor for the goal. Leon (pictured) finished it off with a good header and I'm delighted for him. I thought if anyone was going to win the game it'd be us, unfortunately we didn't take the opportunities but I can't fault the players' effort. We played some good stuff in the second half in conditions that weren't the best, but I shouldn't have to go in there at half time in order to get a reaction. We knew we had to win this game and I don't think a draw's good enough at the end of the day."
