Craig Mawson, the goalkeeper on trial at Boundary Park, played a very positive game against Blackpool reserves and saved two penalties in the process. Manager Brian Talbot must have been impressed with the youngster’s performance as he was decisive, his positioning and distribution was good and his kicking was excellent. Wes Wilkinson returned to the team but got sent off for two bookable challenges at the end of the first half.

Scott Vernon and Chris Killen also returned to action. Vernon showed his aerial dominance with some good flick-ons but it must be said that Killen had a relatively quiet game. Killen missed a glorious chance just before half time when he slipped at the crucial minute although the weather was fluctuating from bright sunshine to torrential rain which didn’t make footholds that easy. With the game petering out to an a goalless draw Gorre scored a good goal in the dying seconds to win the game for Blackpool when he left Mawson with no chance.
