Latics sign a left back

Athletic have finally brought in a left back. Reading's Scott Golbourne has signed on a month's loan and the 20-year-old will go straight into the squad for Saturday's derby game against Stockport County. Golbourne is an England youth international and has previously been out on loan at Bournemouth and Wycombe Wanderers and he made his first Premier League start for Reading against Bolton Wanderers in August 2007.

Golbourne admitted that he is looking forward to establishing himself with Athletic and told Latics World, "I am excited about the move and I'm looking forward to getting some games under my belt because I haven't played much for Reading this season. It'll be good to get in the mix, especially at a club like Oldham who are pushing for promotion. I was lucky enough to be a part of promotion at Reading a couple of seasons ago and they were exciting times. I was a bit shocked [at the 5-0 reverse] when I had a little look at the scores on Saturday afternoon, and it was surprising given that the team had been unbeaten for a while. I am a Southern boy and it is a challenge coming up here, but it will be something different and I am very much looking forward to my time here."

"I would say I am more of an attacking left back. I like to get forward and get crosses in. Defending is the first thing on the agenda, but I like to join in further up if I can. The manager has told me that my style should fit in nicely with how the team want to play. The Stockport game will be a good one to try and bounce back - it's a local derby and the boys will be up for it, so it's a good chance to show everyone what we're about. We need to forget about Hereford and move on as soon as possible, and three points would do the trick."
