Iain Dowie has signed Stockport County striker Ben Burgess (22) on a three month loan deal to help out in his current striker shortage. Burgess should start his Boundary Park career by lining up against Brentford, one of his old clubs, on Saturday for whom he scored 17 goals in 43 appearances. Known as Big Ben due to his 6' 3" stature, he became Stockport’s second highest fee paid when Carlton Palmer paid out £400,000 for him.

He began at Blackburn but made only two appearances for the Premiership club. He had two spells out on loan, first in Australia for Northern Spirit where he also played regularly for the Australian National Soccer League side, scoring a 12 minute hat-trick in one game. His second loan spell was at Brentford where his goals at Griffin Park helped them remain in the top six.
