Latics to move to Failsworth?

A row has broken out between the club and the Oldham Chronicle after the newspaper disclosed the news that the Latics are to build a new stadium on allotments and football pitches in Failsworth. According to the Chron, plans have apparently been drawn up which will allow the club to switch from Boundary Park to a new ground at the Avro plant of Lancaster Sports Club. The ground is also used by the Latics' School of Excellence and for first team training. Local amateur club, Failsworth Dynamos Football Club has just spent 18 months in securing an agreement to transform the park into facilities for thousands of local children to play football on and they have been left "absolutely dumbfounded" that the land has been offered to Latics.

The proposals are on the agenda of next Wednesday's Oldham Council cabinet meeting with a report stating it, "seeks to obtain the requisite approval to enter into a conditional agreement with the club for the transfer of an area of council owned land in support of the club's ground redevelopment proposals."

Chairman Simon Blitz has confessed, "I cannot see the club surviving if all we can offer is a dilapidated stadium. Boundary Park will only get worse over the next 10 years, so we have to find a way to build a new stadium somehow and somewhere. A revamp of Boundary Park is getting harder by the day because property prices around the world have crashed."
