Latics unlucky

Latics’ boss Stephen Robinson believed that his side were unlucky to gain just one point against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday. He commented after the game,

“I think first half both teams cancelled each other out a little bit. They are a very strong team and they have only lost one away from home so far this season and you can see that. They are well organised, disciplined but I didn’t think there was a lot of goalmouth action if I’m honest. It was congested in the middle of the pitch, we changed the system in the second half and the subs made an impact when they came on. I thought we deserved the three points towards the end of the game because we were the stronger team and finished strong but it was a frustrating not to get all three points. We should have scored three times from the one attack in the final minute of the game. Whether it was over the line, we don’t know. It was difficult for the referee to see amongst the bodies. Freddie thought it was over the line, the subs warming up thought it was over the line but it is tough for the officials.”

“I set a task of winning three games this week, we won two and drew one so if you would have asked me at the start of the week I would have taken it, but I would have probably preferred three points in the league rather than in the cup games. It is what it is, we did not lose the game, we are looking like a decent side and you can see we are getting better and better. We are getting in the areas and putting good crosses into the box. Billy Mckay forces the goalkeeper to make a super save in the first half, Crofty had a chance but I thought their goalkeeper was excellent today and he’s had a good day.”
