Latics world shattered

Athletic have had their world shattered after Oldham Council's Planning Committee refused their new stadium plans. The Councillors voted by seven to four against granting outline planning permission, although the committee had voted unanimously (11 to 0) to approve the development of the current Broadway Stand.

This is a huge disappointent to the Latics owners even though the scheme was recommended for approval by their own planning experts. The Councillors had doubts over the traffic survey figures despite being given the green light as an official Council document. Another concern by Cllr. Bashforth was the large scale of the development and the loss of open space and amenities.

The final outcome is unclear but the refusal of the scheme could put the very future of Oldham Athletic and professional sport in the town in severe jeopardy. Fans are rallying round and making proposals to help support an appeal to the decision as well as suggesting protests against Oldham Council. Stay tuned for developments.
