Liddell signs

Andy Liddell has signed for the Latics after being released by Sheffield United. Liddell is a utility forward who is equally at home whether playing wide or in the centre and he could be the final piece of Ronnie Moore’s jigsaw.

When he left Wigan in 2004 he was their all time leading goal scorer, although his limited appearances meant that he only hit six goals for the Blades last season. An undisclosed fee has been agreed and Andy told the official website, “I am delighted to have signed. I am really looking forward to it. Latics came completely out of the blue. I had a word with John Breckin and my contract was signed in 2 minutes. Ronnie Moore's sides work hard and that's the sort of team I want to be a part of. Whenever I have played against his sides they are always extremely hard to beat.”

“I always give it 100%, everything I've got, on the training ground or on a match day. I love playing football. I could play all year round. The summer time is boring for me. That's why I left Sheffield Utd. as it was clear that I wasn't going to play a lot of football there this season. I have been in this division before with Wigan and its hard to get out of. You don't get a lot of time on the ball. While I was at Sheffield Utd. we all kept our eye on Oldham because of Luke Beckett and you survived by the skins of your teeth. I don't want to be doing that again this season and with the quality of players now at the club I don't think we will. I want to help Latics get out of this division and I believe we can do that this season.”
