Mark Hughes signs for Latics

Mark Hughes, a name which will remain permanently emblazoned on every Latics fans’ mind, has signed on a one month loan at Boundary Park. It’s not the former Welsh manager but it’s Tottenham Hotspur’s Northern Ireland under 21 International player. Hughes plays in central midfield and has impressed Brian Talbot sufficiently that he will probably step right into Saturday’s team.

The Latics manager said, “Mark has a lot of ability. He is an accurate passer and has a good touch, but hasn't yet had a chance in the Spurs first team. Their management team of Frank Arneson and Martin Jol think it is a good idea for Mark to join us.”

Hughes said, “I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully we can pick up a few results. I'm here to learn and progress my career. I came over to England when I was 16 and I was going back home playing for 18's, 19's, 20's and then 21's last season. I've had a good career so far with it. I got on okay on loan at Northampton and I'm hoping to do the same here. I played 3 games and set up a few chances. I'm really looking forward to it. Straight into the action is the best thing I think - so I don't have any time to think about it. Hopefully I can prove to everybody that I can play a bit.”
