Match officials not consistent enough

Match officials came in for a bit of ear-bashing by John Sheridan after his team fell 3-0 at Port Vale on Wednesday night.

Shez commented, "On Saturday we had a referee who never had the whistle out of his mouth, and tonight it's one who never had the whistle in it. Where's the consistency? The tackle on Craig Rocastle early on was scandalous, and their player didn't even get booked. Chris Porter and Paul Warne would both have had penalties if they'd gone down instead of staying on their feet, but I've got two honest lads there. They were being dragged down both times, but I can't say too much more or I'll get myself in trouble."

"I'm not happy with a number of the bookings, and I'm not happy with myself. I was frustrated, and I think everyone knows why. The referee was very poor. Some of his decisions were a bit embarrassing and I thought he let too much go. There's no consistency. Having said that, I'm very disappointed with my players because we didn't show enough fight. The goals we conceded were a joke."
